Motivations to write

As a writer I am always considering the motivations of characters - what makes them fulfilled and happy and what makes them dissatisfied and miserable. I tend to work on two premises; that people need to relate with one another and that when they do relate with one another that tends to lead to at least a little conflict. We can get it wonderfully right or spectacularly wrong and all on the same day with the same person! Nothing is queerer than folk and that is what keeps me endlessly engaged with the process of writing.

Inevitably, a writer starts to form some impressions (which could be entirely wrong or at least highly debatable!) about what women want and what makes them happy and this is a place to ponder and reflect on the issues concerning how women and men relate to one another. I intend to consider all the issues but what brings joy is high on my list. I want this above all to be a happy place.
